There is some misinformation in the letter from Linda Morgan. She states "The surveys also indicated dog parks were a highly requested item". In fact, of the 31 possible elements to be included in the park, off leash areas for dogs came in second last, beating out only a midway. She is correct however about the "nature-centric" focus of the park. The top 3 elements were all concerned with natural aspects:
1. Natural areas (treed and open)
2. Swimming area (beach)
3. Habitat restoration (e.g. treed areas, wetland, shoreline)
That survey is from 2007! The city has done two newer surveys. One in the winter of 2008-2009 that did not have "dog park" as one of the options and a write in vote put it as one of the top 3 choices in a 3 choice question. The other survey was which option for the park - 75% wanted the "Enviro" option and 85% wanted a dog park. CKWS TV did a poll and, of the 651 responses, 90% wanted the dog park to remain at LOP.
The misinformation is coming from the city. They refuse to publish polls that do not spport their agenda. Fot more information, contact Kristine Hebert at city hall.
